Beats from the Lab
The field notes from the Light Labs Team’s journey activating wisdom on the interior condition of leadership.
Beats are the rhythmic unit in music, the movement of a bird's wings, and the pumping of a heart. Beats connect us to life itself. This brief weekly blog will connect you to your own inner beat.

What happens when we hold things loosely?
What happens when we hold things loosely?
What if we don't have the exact scope, parameters, requirements, needs - but open up a dialogue to uncover, experiment, and learn?
One person shares. Then, after a moment, another joins. We take turns from witnessing to sharing. And we invite energy, new thinking, deep truth, grappling with what was, what is, and what could be.
Our work today may not turn into a finished product that meets a need cleanly. But what if it creates a shift in consciousness for ourselves, for others in the future?

Have we thought about the harm caused by prolonged urgency?
Urgency is exhausting…
What stories do I tell myself to justify and perpetuate urgency?
“I don’t have a moment to spare!”
I grow impatient. I commoditize my time and "measure" productivity and efficiency.

Loving leaders seek to create opportunities where multiple needs are responded to at the same time.
We have deep needs for love, to be accepted, to do something meaningful, to be seen, and heard, and valued for who we are.
We have deep needs to step into vulnerability, and to be courageous with our actions.
Needs to be who we are, and to just BE.
Needs for space and silence.
Needs for dialogue, and for connection.
Needs for being part of, and being independent.
Loving leaders care to respond to those needs at all times. Loving leaders seek to create opportunities where multiple needs are responded to at the same time.

There is so much wisdom available when the conditions are right.
There is so much wisdom available when the conditions are right.
In our leadership practice, it is our belief that we have all we need within us to be leaders. To be loving leaders.
It is not the lack of skills, or resources or knowledge that prevents us from being loving leaders.
It's the ability to access those at all times, or at least at the times when we need them.
What helps you access your best leadership capacity?
What does it look like when you feel a deep connection?
What helps you imagine the unlimited possibilities?

If I keep chasing something that is outside of me, I forget what I already know.
How much enough is enough, what’s enoughness - who decides?
Does this come from expectations set by others? Is it about comparison? And if so, why does this matter so much to me? Is there a way to step back from everything? To accept that I am enough regardless of how much I achieve and on what specific timeline.
I am blessed to have my family, to have my work, to have a network, a community, to feel love each day, and to do meaningful work. It’s enough ALREADY. I am already enough.

What makes life more beautiful and other generative questions.
The power of interrelated questions.
Open, inviting questions. Generative questions.
Some questions stand alone in their power, no matter the context.
Some questions are more powerful when in relation.
(Sometimes questions find themselves in relation by chance. Serendipity.)
Some individuals stand alone in their power, no matter the situation.
Other individuals are more powerful when in relation, creating the situation.
Isn’t it that when life is more beautiful we grow? Or is it that when we have full access to each other, life becomes more beautiful?

A loving intention needs a loving attention.
At any given moment, there is so much to hold. All at the same time - joy, grief, sorrow, hope, love, fear, deep appreciation for life.
How can we hold that full experience and then honor our needs?
As loving leaders, we crack wide open and trust that it's safe out there. And it's safe within.
No matter what happens we can trust and listen to ALL the parts within us that need nourishment.
A loving intention needs a loving attention.
How can we slow down enough to notice, to connect, to breathe deeply?
