Denise Matayoshi Miño

As a trusted advisor and an original community member, Denise contributes in multiple ways to the effort to Make Work More Human.
She is a change leader in the field of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and brings that lens as a practitioner of A Human Workplace. She served as an intern with Results Washington, supporting the effort to make government more human. She has held various roles in Washington State government since 1994, giving her experience in education, technology, and public health. In addition, she has worked with tribal governments as well as staff and communities of color.
Over the years Denise has led several diversity related initiatives within state government and her local community. She sees the need for our public sector workforce to reflect the populations we serve. Denise is most proud of her role in establishing the Latino Leadership Network for Washington State employees.
Denise is a transformational coach, conference presenter, facilitator, trainer, consultant, and change leader. She believes in leading teams with love, compassion, and empathy, considering each individual and their unique skills and perspectives as a valuable part of the whole. She understands the necessity of psychological safety at work, and feels it is imperative that we make a concerted effort to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive work culture where all staff are valued for their unique contributions.
She is currently a graduate student at Walden University where she is majoring in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, focusing on what it means to have a trauma-informed workplace. Denise is Lean/Six Sigma and National Public Manager certified. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University Idaho, where she studied public health and organizational culture. Denise is a transplant to the Northwest United States, originally from the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii.
